The Sun Has Got His Hat On
Sunday 5th May 2013On one of the glorious sunny days last week, a customer observed that back in the days when she was working as an NHS GP, she and her colleagues used to see a lot of patients with what they called 'February syndrome'.
"It was long before anyone had heard of 'SAD' Seasonal Affective Disorder but it definitely existed,' she said.
To me, it is one of those things that is noticeable by its absence. All the customers this week have had a smile on their face and a spring in their step. Everyone is happy now that the sun has got his hat on. It makes you realise how glum we've all been feeling for the last few months.
Here at Bullen Mead we're moving into full summer mode. The Quirks have put out an astonishingly healthy looking array of veg plants that they've been nurturing all winter. They're selling everything from courgettes to cabbages.
Our very nice neighbour Nigel has, this morning, mown the Sculpture Meadow and people are already starting to enjoy the 'Walk the Wight' trail.
As I write there are people sitting in the Two Ticks Tea garden munching Minghella's ice-cream. (Capuccino is already emerging as a favourite, which it seems to do every year.)
And yesterday we welcomed Bullen Mead Barn to the site - a wonderful emporium selling reclaimed garden furniture, statuary, French flea-market finds and much more.
And now I'm going to go and set up the croquet!
