Neil Tregear

A truly international artist, Neil Tregear discovered clay at high school in San Francisco, did a degree in ceramics at Middlesex Polytechnic and then followed it with an intensive throwing apprenticeship in the porcelain workshops of Kyoto in Japan. He has since thrown literally hundreds of thousands of pots.

In the course of his career he has produced pots for Liberty of London, Graham and Green, David Mellor, Colefax and Fowler and many other shops in Britain, America and Japan. He has produced Egyptian reproductions for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Having moved to Niton on the rocky and wild South Coast of the Isle of Wight, he finds his current work is very much influenced and inspired by his environment.

He works from a small studio attached to his house and glaze firings take place in a recently completed Bourry Box, wood fired kiln. This is sited at the local sawmill. Work is biscuit fired in an electric kiln and glaze fired in a wood fired kiln. All work is thrown.
