Isle of Wight Cheese is one of the most scrumptious things to be found on the Isle of Wight.
The company was established in 2006 at the Queen Bower Dairy near Alverstone, a site chosen because there is a herd of Guernsey cows grazing right next door which means that, as far as the milk is concerned, we are talking Food Metres (25 to be precise) rather than Food Miles.
As every stage of the cheese making and packing process is completed on site, this cheese does not travel until it is ready to be sold. As far as possible packaging is sourced locally and is biodegradable, so the carbon footprint of this company is remarkably low.
Two vacant barns on the farm were converted in to a brand new cheesemaking facility from which the company produces the multi-award winning Isle of Wight Blue, Isle of Wight Soft and an unpasteurised cheddar type cheese called Galleybagger.
And, in case you had forgotten, the cheese is delicious!
